Workers Comp/Industrial Rehabilitation/Functional Capacity Evaluations
Patients that suffer from work-related injuries may meet the treatment goals of physical therapy but cannot return to work do to deconditioning (being out of shape).
Work conditioning programs are designed to help patients with the following:
- Recover their strength
- Improve endurance
- Increase flexibility & mobility
- Improve cardiorespiratory fitnes
- Personalized interventions are also provided to decrease the odds of re-injury upon return work
Typically, these programs consist of personalized, full-body, intensive endurance training with a focus on the activities that are similar to the physical demands required by a particular category of employment. Although not always necessary, work conditioning programs may be precursor-ed by a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE). An FCE is a particular type of assessment that evaluates an individual’s tolerance and/or endurance to a work day or full day of a particular activity. A quality FCE may take anywhere from 2 to 8 hrs to complete.
